We are so glad that you are considering becoming a part of the Asbury United Methodist Church family. Joining Asbury gives you an opportunity to strengthen your relationship with God, Self and Others.

When you join Asbury, you become a member of the United Methodist connection - a covenant community dedicated to making disciples for Jesus Christ. New members of Asbury are asked to make a vow to God and the congregation to uphold the church with their Prayers, their Presence, their Gifts, their Service and their Witness.

  • Prayers - for the church and it's ministries
  • Presence - at worship services, Bible studies and ministry activities
  • Gifts - of financial support as a faith investment in God's work
  • Service - to His kingdom by volunteering to serve in one or more ministry areas
  • Witness - to members in the community

You can become a member of Asbury United Methodist Church at any worship service. At the end of the service, an invitation is issued to come forward to join. You may join at that time, or you may wish to visit with one of the ministers during the week in the church office with questions or let them know which Service you will be joining. Either minister will be happy to answer any questions you have. You can become a member of Asbury in one of the following ways:

  • If you currently belong to another United Methodist Church - After joining Asbury, we will write the United Methodist Church holding your membership and request a transfer. This is considered a Transfer of Membership
  • If you belong to another denomination - After joining Asbury, we will write the church holding your membership and request a transfer. The United Methodist Church honors baptisms from other denominations, so you will not need to be baptized again. This is considered a Transfer of Membership
  • If you are not a member of any church, but you have been baptized - You will join by Profession of Faith with one of the ministers asking you the vows of church membership
  • If you have never been baptized - You will be baptized at the church service when you join. Once baptized, you will join by Profession of Faith.
  • Children - Many people wonder when to have their children baptized. Some choose to baptize their children as an infant and others feel that their child should wait until their confirmation to make that decision. There is no right or wrong answer. It is up to the family. Confirmation class is held during a child's sixth grade school year. At the completion of the class, children decide for themself whether or not to join the church. If they have not been baptized prior to confirmation, they will be baptized at their confirmation service held in May. Children are not on the official Full Member roll of the church until they are confirmed.

Membership is an important task of the church. It is the serious discipline of caring for and sustaining the vital relationships among the people of God. Membership records are means to remember, empower, and stimulate personal belief in Christ. Each year, we are required to report our membership statistics to the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, which is the regional body of the church. Please update the church when you have a life change, such as a new baby, an address or phone number change. We care about the changes in your life and want to be able to minister to you where you are. It is also important for you to update the church when you move or decide to change churches, so that we can make necessary membership transfers.

If you have decided that Asbury is right for you, please fill out the Membership form on the back of a church bulletin or click here for a printable copy and give to the minister when you join Asbury.
