Lent 2025- Find the good, Help it thrive

Hello Asbury!

This year for Lent, we will be focusing on a theme that Pastor Matt brought to us a few weeks back. “Find the good, help it thrive.” In a world where the news is constantly bringing us stressful headlines and our anxiety is at an all time high, what would it look like to also be intentional about recognizing the good things happening around us each day? Paul tells us at the end of Philippians- “Whatever is good, noble, true, beautiful…focus your mind on these things, and God’s peace will be with you.”

So during the 40-day season of Lent, we’d love to highlight the good that our Asbury community is seeing in their personal lives, and also asking what it might look like to help that thrive. We will take your responses and post one a day on our social media during Lent. Would you mind giving a few moments of your day to answer these two questions for me?

1) Where do you see the goodness of God in your life right now?
2) What could you do to help it thrive?

I’ll give you my answer so that you have a reference point. It doesn’t have to be grandiose or larger than life. In fact, the simpler the better. For me, “I see the goodness of God in my first cup of coffee in the morning. I love the process of making that cup- boiling the water, grinding the beans, doing a slow pour-over. I try to help that goodness thrive by buying my beans from the local non-profit Rise Up and Roast, a movement started by the Hub to help victims of human trafficking or extreme poverty find dignified employment.”
